June was the first month that Blast House Studios has covered its expenses- A big milestone! The business is healthily growing as Mike, the owner, continues to devise opportunities that are mutually beneficial to related local businesses and offer educational perks to his roster of music students taking lessons at the Madison Music Foundry. Projects that are in the pipeline include: *Recording session observation days. *Workshops designed to introduce kids and adults to the recording process and technologies that happen to make an album. *Possibly getting a nice grand piano for the live room.
Tret Fure's album, The Horizon, released last month and has already been gathering good reviews. The songs "Millie" and "Grace of God" can be listened to here.
A Minute Jack Forum is releasing their debut album on July 20th at High Noon Saloon, 6pm. If you like Sonic Youth, Interpol, and The Tragically Hip, then you'll love these guys. I'll have song examples up following the release date.
Catch Kid finished mixing with me last week and are off to master with Justin Perkins. Their brand of piano/synth pop is powerful catchy. I'll be excited to see how they assemble a live show!

I recently caught the attention of FabFilter, the makers of high quality synthesizers and audio effect plugins. I'm very excited to have a partnership with them- Their compressor and EQ plugins have become my favorite to use. My artist feature is posted on their website. |

Blast House saw a lot of activity in March. I'm excited to announce that the owner, Mike Olson, promoted me to the honorary position as Head Engineer of the studio. We've developed a seamless working relationship together, and I'm excited to see it enrich as our investment in the studio grows. Last month I caught the attention of IK Multimedia, the makers of some excellent amp simulation plugins, and they've been very generous in their support of my work and Blast House's mission of having a world-class studio within financial reach of every musician. A wide variety of projects kept me busy this month:
Tret Fure is a veteran Madison singer songwriter. We began work on tracking her new record- Look forward to pure, clear vocals and acoustic guitar, lush choruses, and savory string arrangements.
Sebastiaan de Rode is a cellist from the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra. He was visiting in Madison and performed a series of solo concerts. I recorded two nights at Bon Appetit, which Sebastiaan talked about the next day on Wisconsin Public Radio.
Fedora began tracking their new album at Blast House. They're a rock band that put the studio's isolation to the test. Let it be known- If you're a Rock band wanting to record an album all playing in the same room together at the same time, Blast House is where you should be! -The bleed between instruments was an absolute minimum.
