Another year of voting in the MAMAs is here. The MAMAs is an organization that raises money for music education in schools. Vote for me, Blast House and the nominated projects I've worked on!
Lovely Socialite has just released their sophomore full length studio recording, and it's an incredible follow up to their 2012 release, "Registers Her Delight" Here's how Tone Madison describes them.
...this band is deeply odd in its bones, having sprouted from the intersection of formal musical training and dogged experimentation. Lovely Socialite’s instrumentals may be rooted in heady, through-composed jazz and modern classical, but also make elegant nods to funk, rock, hip hop, noise music...
I was involved through the entire course of the album, from recording, to mixing, and mastering. Click on the album artwork to listen on Bandcamp.
Thanks to all the folks who voted in the Madison Area Music Awards (MAMAs). It was a real treat to take home the award for Studio Sound Engineer of the year. Blast House Studios also took home Recording Studio of the year, which we're thrilled about.
In addition to that news I've got a couple new releases to put up. Egret/ Flatlander is solo double bass music that explores extended technique on the instrument. Keon Andre' Band is live band Rock/ Rap music. The two albums are nearly polar opposites of each other, and that's what I love about being a sound engineer in Madison!
Three projects of mine have recently come out! Luke Arvid came in to Blast House for a couple evening with a drummer, recorded acoustic guitar, vocals, and drums with me, and then took the tracks home with him for a little more tinkering. He brought them back in for me to mix about a month later with a few more parts to fill out the arrangements.
Martha Burnett came in with a full band and got the bulk of her debut EP recorded in an afternoon's time. The next several months were spent adding everything else that's sweet on the record.
John Trautman (Vold Book) found me on Soundcloud and sent his Logic sessions up from Austin, TX for me to mix and master. It was fun working with such dense songs, and I'm excited to see that he's having the album pressed on vinyl!
Some fun fall/winter projects have already been released this year. "Oasis" is Douglas Whittle's second completed project with me. He dives more into mixed instrumentation and soundscapes. Check out his acoustic track, "The Days Between Your Visits."
Type Type is a side project for Luke Polipnick teaming up with drummer, Cory Healey. Half of the album was recorded with me at Blast House Studios and the other half was recorded and mixed over at Audio For The Arts. Check out the full album at the Type Type Bandcamp page.
Oh My Love is out with their second album and sound more electronic than folk this time around. Read about the transition to a three piece. Listen to their new EP at the Oh My Love Bandcamp page.
Norwei is a solo project for Oh My Love's Keyboard player, David Dickson. Listen to his full EP at the Norwei Bandcamp page.
Listen to select tracks from each of these projects in my updated music player.
