Recording Courses

posted Dec 12, 2011 10:47 AM by Landon Arkens   [ updated Dec 12, 2011 11:02 AM ]

The Madison Music Foundry is offering introductory recording courses for the first time! The series includes 3 courses running 5 weeks each. The first 2 of which will be taught by MMF instructor, Jourdan Hines, and the third will be taught by me at Blast House Studios. This series isn't intended to replace a full educational program that other schools offer, but rather is designed to teach about audio equipment function and basic engineering principles that will be useful for any working musician, home recording enthusiast, or student deciding whether or not to enroll in a music industry specialized school. The Whiskey Farm started tracking songs for their new album.

Jake Wirth was in the studio tracking drums with me for his upcoming EP.

Summer Projects

Blizzard at Sea - Invariance
This summer had a bunch of fun projects happen at the studio.  Many of the projects will be releasing albums this fall.

I did mastering work for Blizzard at Sea (left), Stultus, and Regalia.

Orphan Bloom came in to do full band tracking and is now finishing up overdub tracking for an EP release.  Looking forward to mixing this!

Willow Lane came back in for another round of full band tracking.  They're going to have plenty of great material to pick from and include on their first full length release.

Orpheus came down from De Pere and tracked an entire album in 6 days!  We subsequently mixed and mastered it, and they'll be releasing it very soon after they return from tour.

Graham Webster tracked, mixed, and mastered an acoustic album with me this summer.  Such an enjoyable session, and I love the album artwork!

Currently I'm wrapping up a mix project with Old American Junk.  We did lots of tracking for the album over the summer, and I'll be sending final mixes to Justin Perkins very soon for mastering!

There was an article about the Madison Music Foundry's Rock Workshop in this week's issue of The Isthmus.  Click here to read it.  The Madison Music Foundry is the sister business to Blast House Studios and is a facility for music lessons and full band rehearsals.  They organize many events, including Rock, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Classical Workshops, music theory classes, and will soon be offering a series of audio recording seminars.

Kikeh Mato CD release is coming!

Click here to listen to a track from Kikeh Mato's debut album.

There's a soft place in my heart for bands that keep album production simple.  Kikeh Mato astonished me when they came into the studio and played (and sang!) full keeper takes that made their way to the album largely unadulterated.  I think I can count on two hands the number of performance edits that happened during the whole recording process!  Visit their website for CD release information.
